FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q) Why don't you charge sales tax?
A) Poor Man doesn't like sales tax. Also, our "nexus of operations" doesn't extend beyond the state of Oregon, which has no sales tax. As long as we don't exceed your state's sales revenue limits, we can legally sell our products without charging sales tax for US customers.
Q) How are your products different from those listed on large online retailers?
A) Most of my competitors are re-selling pre-assembled kits from 3rd party overseas suppliers. Due to a number of factors, the quality and fitment of these kits can be questionable. We have carefully selected our components and purchase directly from well-established manufacturers that supply well-known OEM's. We also test our products and inspect and assemble our kits in-house for quality assurance.
Q) Will your product fit my mower?
A) We inspect our hardware and test fit our bearings before they ship. Provided your mower has the correct sized spindle or axle, we expect they will fit . Check to see if your mower manufacturer or OEM replacement part # is listed in the product details. If it is not, we recommend measuring the diameter of your steering spindle or axle shaft before purchasing. If you're still not sure, send us a note through the "Contact Us" link.
Q) What if I have problems with my product?
A) We have a 30-day return policy. Use the "Contact Us" form to explain the issue, and we'll do our best to resolve the problem.
Q) My original wheel bushings fit tightly before removal, but now my wheel bearings are slightly loose. What happened?
A) When removing the bushings, be careful that they don't turn or twist inside the hub. This can slightly enlarge the hub and create a loose fit for the bearings. To ensure the bushings come out straight, gently tap around the entire circumference of the bushing, rather than hammering on a single edge. If the hubs do become slightly enlarged, gently tapping around the outer radius using a hammer (with bushing/bearing removed) should conform them back to the original size.
Q) If I upgrade to sealed wheel bearings, can I stop greasing my wheel hubs?
A) While our wheel bearings are sealed and use quality lubricant, we still recommend greasing the wheel hubs as per your mower manufacturer's maintenance schedule. This will help to reduce fine particle and water entry and prevent corrosion inside the wheel.
Q) Will simply upgrading my steering spindles with needle bearings give me a result similar to power steering?
A) The needle bearing upgrade reduces friction relative to flat OEM bushings (washers) and most customers experience a noticeable improvement (particularly while the mower is in motion). However, upgrading the wheel bushings to bearings improves rolling friction and also further reduces effort at the steering wheel. So, to get the full low-effort steering effect while in motion, we highly recommend upgrading to bearings in both the steering spindles and wheels.
